The Grosvenor Hotel,Torquay,Devon 2013.
The Grosvenor Hotel originally started life as two Victorian Villas - The Glefinnan & The Roslin Hall. They first started trading as hotels around 110 years ago. The building has striking Victorian architecture and many of the bedrooms still retain their elegant Victorian proportions and features. The Grosvenor Hotel is situated in a prime position, just a short walk away from Torre Abbey Gardens and Torquay’s main seafront. In 2011 and 2012,the Hotel was featured in Channel 4`s real life series "The Hotel",and gained popularity mainly due to Mark Jenkins, then owner/manager who tried desperately to turn the fortunes of the business around, but at the end of the last series,we saw Mark sell the Hotel to local Hotelier Keith Richardson for a reputed £1 million. We visited on May 5th on a glorious sunny day and enjoyed a few drinks around the pool and on the roof terrace..I have to say,I found the Hotel very charming indeed, and intend staying in the near future.
Well,we finally decided to stay July 2014,and I loved it here..ok,it needs some work doing still, but for me,we had lush 25 degree heat so made use of the outside pool and upstairs bar terrace.Drinks prices are okay but the meals a little stingy on quantity..salad is dead cheap as are bread rolls and garlic bread..basic ingredients that were a little lacking, but the staff were all nice so for me,as it was my birthday treat,I wasnt` disappointed.I really dont like the full size cardboard Keith Richardson watching over me at reception..I may have had to draw a moustache/beard n glasses on him if I had stayed longer!
