Victoria Hospital,Swindon 2007.
The Swindon and North Wilts Victoria Hospital opened in 1888 on Okus Road, first Swindon general hosp. Up until then there had only been a Pest Hosp on Okus Field and the GWR Medical Society hosp in the railway works, the previous hosp at Okus, the hosp for infectious diseases. (Pest House), was demolished and an isolation hosp was built in Gorse hill in 1892 (now Hawthorn Centre). Vic Hosp cost 1960GBP and voluntarily funded. Site given by A.L. Goddard and foundation stone laid by wife. Only had 5male, 5female, 2cots and 2accident beds. Anyone wanting in were "first to be assessed by a committee and then examined by the resident doctor." Kingshill House former doctors residence, maternity in 1931, later a nuthouse. This is quote from a page I found on Wikkipedia so accuracy is unknown.Klempner69
