The Swindon and North Wilts Victoria Hospital opened in 1888 on Okus Road, first Swindon general hosp. Up until then there had only been a Pest Hosp on Okus Field and the GWR Medical Society hosp in the railway works, the previous hosp at Okus, the hosp for infectious diseases. (Pest House), was demolished and an isolation hosp was built in Gorse hill in 1892 (now Hawthorn Centre). Vic Hosp cost 1960GBP and voluntarily funded. Site given by A.L.
