This view was taken early 1970`s

This tiny little shop has been here for as long as I can remember

But by the end of the week (23/5/2014) it will transfer business to the Chiseldon House Hotel albeit temporarily

A new Spar shop is being built on the site that will include a Post office.

Back in the 1960`s one of my school mate`s dad was always being nabbed for breaking into this shop for ciggies or cash

On this wall,I remember two early vending machines,one of which sold chewing gum..Beachnut seems to spring to mind..the other machine sold Cadburys small bars of chocolate.

Round the back.the kids used to gather and light up a fag so they couldnt be seen.

Once,this view would have been looking over toward the railway line.

Many a time,I have climbed this wall or sat on it...as a kid of course!

There wasnt much they didnt sell.

And that was Chaplins..good luck with the new shop.

Nearly all gone now

My Bruv saw these old sleepers with wheels attached..were they part of the original shop/shed that was put here back in the days of the working railway line.Big thanks to John Dobson for taking these last two pictures.

All gone now as of Sunday 1st June 2014.

As of June 15th 2014,the foundations are being laid.
